Leaders Introduction

Jeremy Birch - leader of the Council

Now the local elections are over and done with the key task for the council and for every councillor is making sure the plans for the year are carried through.  Our performance plan for the current financial year is called Delivering the Future. A summary leaflet should have been delivered to every home and the full document is available to anyone who wants one.

The key themes are making Hastings cleaner, greener and safer and continuing the major regeneration programme for the town.  Rapid response to rubbish or dumped cars, raising our recycling figures and improving our parks and open spaces, continuing to push down the figures for recorded crime - these are some of the challenges the council has set itself in Delivering the Future.  The About magazine will be highlighting the projects and people who are helping us meet these challenges as the year goes on.

In this edition you can read about our 'green' successes in Alexandra Park and the Country Park.  You can see how the wardens and rangersare helping keep Hastings 'clean'. And we can all feel 'safer' thanks to the work of the Bar Watch and Shop Watch schemes and of course the wardens - all reported on in this issue.

Improving the quality of life for local people by activities like this also helps improve the image of Hastings to those who might invest here, create jobs here or visit here.  Big physical regeneration projects and making the everyday improvements the community feels are important all help towards the same end - making our town a more attractive, successful and prosperous place.

The place to follow our progress is in the pages of about.
