Spreading the Wonder of the Wardens

Our award-winning team of 18 highly trained, full-time wardens will now patrol the whole town, acting as the "eyes and ears" of the community.  They can deal with a range of issues including noise pollution, litter, abandoned cars, waste and anti-social behaviour.

The communities that most need support (Castle, Gensing/Central St Leonards, Greater Hollington and Ore Valley/Broomgrove) will have their own dedicated wardens while 'mobile patrols' will cover the rest of the town.

With their new striking orange and green uniforms, the wardens will be more visible and easier to distinguish from the police and other emergency services.  They have all been issued with state-of-the-art equipment so they can deal with incidents quickly and efficiently.  We gave the service a February relaunch in Broomgrove, one of the communities to get its own dedicated team, as part of our determination to make the town clean, green and safe.

Look out for our massive bus side advertising campaign which promotes the wardens and the many issues they can help you with.

Chief Inspector Mike Fagan, the police liaison officer for the Neighbourhood Renewal Team at the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister, said:

"The Hastings Wardens Service is highly regarded as one of only five of 500 in the country to be awarded the Quality Standard by the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister.
"The wardens are making a difference by being a visible presence to reduce the fear of crime. I'm sure they'll continue to make a valued contribution to improving the quality of life of the people of Hastings & St Leonards."

Council Leader Jeremy Birch added:

"Hastings is a town that's tackling crime and the wardens are right at the heart of that. The public wants a town that's clean, green and safe and the wardens are having a real impact. They're helping us deal with the fear of crime and they give reassurance to the community that there's someone to call on. The wardens are here to stay."
