The Audit Commission recently announced that we're a 'good' council following its report on how well we're performing and serving our community.

The report says that we provide good services, keep public areas clean and are tackling poor quality private housing.  It notes that we're generally improving our services in areas of the town that have the greatest need and that we're playing a key role in the big regeneration programme.

It also describes how we can improve our services by, amongst other things, increasing our capacity and helping provide more affordable housing.

Chief Executive Roy Mawford said:

"I'm very pleased that we've been rated a 'Good Council' - this is the second highest of the five categories.
"However we're not complacent and we know there are areas where we can improve.  Every local authority, including the best, prepares an Improvement Plan after this kind of report and we're already working on ours.  It'll be presented to the Cabinet, a key decision-making part of our organisation, later this month.
"I'd particularly like to pay tribute to our staff, who've worked very hard to help us achieve this result."

Council Leader Jeremy Birch added:

"It's good that the Audit Commission has recognised how ambitious we are as a Council.  We're determined to turn Hastings into a prosperous town for everyone.  I'd like to thank our staff, our contractors and our partners - this result is a credit to everyone."
