Time for the Truth about Crime

cover of CADDIE leaflet

Whenever we ask you about your concerns, crime is usually near the top of the list.  Yet if you study the figures for our town you'll find there's a conflict between how bad things seem to be and how bad they actually are.

In Hastings & St Leonards, people's fear of crime is often far greater than the actual threat.& That's why we've now got teams of wardens out on the streets providing visible reassurance.
It's also why we've created CADDIE -the Crime And Disorder Data Information Exchange.

This internet-based service can give you accurate and up-to-date information about true crime and disorder levels in your area.  You can view maps to see where particular types of crime mostly occur.  You can find out more about what we 're doing to deal with the problems. You can even influence what we're doing.

CADDIE was developed by the emergency services, local councils and community organisations. Together,we make sure information on crime and disorder "hotspots " is kept up to date so we have a detailed picture of what 's happening near you. This allows us to develop new ways of reducing crime and allocate funding in areas where it 's most needed.

Councillor Trevor Webb, portfolio holder responsible for Community Safety, said:

"The fear of crime seriously affects people's quality of life.  I hope that CADDIE will help everybody to find out the truth about crime and disorder levels in their community"
