Better than Brighton?

Hastings was recently compared favourably to Brighton in a high profile Daily Telegraph Travel Section article on classic holiday destinations and better alternatives.

The only two UK resorts to feature were Brighton and Hastings.
If you look at the main photo, it shows a battered old suitcase featuring stickers for traditional destinations like Paris, Florida, Kenya and Brighton while the modern new case promotes Antarctica, the Seychelles, Berlin... and Hastings!

As Jeremy Birch mentioned in his introduction, the article said that:

"Brighton, that brash old lady of the South Coast, has been hogging the limelight for so long that her charms are becoming too familiar ...".  In contrast, Hastings' star was said to be rising with numerous references to our many regeneration projects and the "broody character of the atmospheric Old Town".

Councillor Peter Chowney, portfolio holder responsible for Marketing, said:

"This is a fantastic article, with Hastings being the only British destination to be featured positively.  It's great to see the photo of our fishing fleet next to pictures of the Reichstag in Berlin, Urbino in Italy, and a Chinstrap Penguin in Antarctica!
"We know that Hastings is a great place to live and visit, and we're particularly targeting high-spending visitors in our marketing.  For us to get such a good write up in a paper like the Daily Telegraph shows that the good news about Hastings, and its regeneration, is really getting through."
