The fight against crime and anti-social behaviour in Hastings & St Leonards has been given a boost by the arrival of a new mobile CCTV vehicle.
The vehicle features five state of the art cameras which all pan, tilt and zoom and will be operated by two fully trained crew.
All footage will be recorded onto two VCRs which are high quality and so can be used as evidence. The mobile CCTV system, costing £120,000 of community safety and neighbourhood renewal cash, will help Sussex Police and the Council tackle anti-social behaviour, aid high visibility police and planned enforcement operations and ensure public safety in hotspots.
Cabinet Member responsible for Safety & Enforcement, Councillor Trevor Webb, said:
"This unit will complement our existing CCTV across the town and will be jointly run by the police and ourselves.
"We are building a close-knit team to tackle nuisance and crime in the town. Our street wardens, parking attendants and shop and pub watch members, are coordinated through a radio link in our CCTV control room and we also have a direct link to the police radio frequency. This means that we all work closely together to tackle issues that arise on a daily basis.
"The addition of mobile CCTV strengthens our fight against crime and I hope, as has happened in neighbouring Thanet, will lead to a drop in crime levels."
