Stade Development Update

Last summer, leading architect Kathryn Findlay unveiled her plans for a new 'landmark building' on the Stade, providing a new Tourist Information Centre, visitor centre/exhibition area, a quality restaurant, and public toilets.

Extensive consultation highlighted a number of issues in the original design, and the challenge to Kathryn Findlay and her team was to come up with a revised design which still satisfied the original brief, but also took into account the points raised during the consultation.  In particular, a number of local residents had concerns about the exact size of the development, and its height.

The architects have been working hard on the revised design, and a number of different solutions have been explored.  Their new proposals were unveiled at a special exhibition held at St Mary in the Castle in October.

Council Leader Jeremy Birch said:- "The existing building on the Stade clearly needs replacing, we even have to shut the Tourist Information Centre when it rains hard.  We value our visitors, and they surely deserve a better welcome to Hastings than this.
"I know that Kathryn Findlay have worked hard on revising the plans to take into account the comments made during the consultation.  I hope that the new plans will be welcomed both by those who liked the original scheme, and those who had some concerns about it."
