Braybrooke Pocket Park

Work to transform the disused Smith's Yard into a pocket park - called 'The Pocket' - for residents in Braybrooke is now nearly complete.

The area, which was a mix of workshops, had gradually become derelict.  The Council acquired the land and leased it to local group 'Better Braybrooke', who after consultation with residents, decided to create a pocket park as an amenity area for everyone to enjoy.

Now, four years on, the area has been transformed.  Planting will begin in October and the area will provide an informal recreation area for residents,

Ward Councillor Godfrey Daniel, said: "I want to pay tribute to all our partners who have helped us to realise our dream and especially for the very positive leadership of Caroline Kempster, the Chair of 'Better Braybrooke'.  We now wish to encourage local groups and individuals to use and look after 'The Pocket', and we are confident that by working together it will become a real asset to the community of Braybrooke."

The project has been funded by the Environment Agency, Biffaward, Hastings Borough Council, together with local charities, firms and individuals.  It is situated within the triangle of Elphinstone and Hughenden Road and Hughenden Place.  The entrance to the Pocket is via the archway in Hughenden Road.
