Sink into a classic red velvet seat and enjoy classic, contemporary and film shorts at Hastings' only independent cinema, the Electric Palace.
Housed in the High Street, the cinema has now been up and running for a year and already boasts 600 members. There are usually five screenings per week - a contemporary film, a special one off evening on Friday which can be a film and talk, a cabaret night or an unusual film. Sunday screenings are for classics.
Membership is free and you can request films, too. Films showing between October and December include Talk to Her - Pedro Almodover, The Pianist - Roman Polansky, Rabbit Proof Fence, Dirty Pretty Things and 9/11 shorts - eleven short films in response to the New York tragedy.
The Electric Palace is playing host to this year's Shot by the Sea film festival from October 27th to November 2nd. The digital film festival is part of Coastal Currents and this year includes ten feature films, talks and discussions on digital filmmaking, film, video and sound installations, filmmaking workshops for young people, a Halloween Horror Night, and online X box gaming on the cinema screen.
A full programme for Shot by the Sea is available from Hastings Information Centre.
If you would like to join the Electric Palace, membership is free. All you need to do is send contact details to Electric Palace, 39a High Street, Hastings TN34 3ER or email info@electricpalacecinema.com
