Feedback from the consultation on the Masterplan, developed by the Hastings & Bexhill Taskforce for the town, showed that residents' wish list revolved around developing key brownfield sites with high quality buildings, creating employment and improving education and business facilities.
The wish list has been developed and concentrates on a small number of major projects based on the creation of three distinct urban areas. These will all be in the town centre and linked by pedestrian routes and civic spaces.
The areas will be:

This site is one of the main gateways into the town and will be developed to create a bustling vibrant space with improved links to the town centre, Pelham Square and into Priory Meadow and the Campus Core. As well as this, the long-awaited improvements to Hastings train station are due to begin this summer and will help create a stunning first impression of the town for those arriving by train.
There is around 16,000 square metres of potential business or education space available which will be grouped around a landscaped plaza with underground car parking.
Two slender and elegant landmark towers will house 100 contemporary apartments with stunning views over the town, but without overshadowing the site.

This is the proposed academic area of the town, which will rid the centre of some unattractive buildings and replace them with a mixed learning, business and residential community - all grouped around a series of linked public squares.
The development of cafes and other venues will be encouraged to help create an area focusing on young people and students and boosting the town centre economy.
12,000 square metres of educational/business space could be provided with up to 100 residential units. This area will also have enhanced links with the rest of the town, including connecting it to the university centre in Havelock Road and the Media Centre in Robertson Street.

Imagine a public space, which is interesting and enjoyable, could be used year-round and which would enhance the setting of Pelham Crescent and St Mary in the Castle.
Pelham Square will be the icon development - creating a stunning civic space and cultural centre for the town. This means putting all car parking underground and narrowing and realigning the seafront road to reduce its impact.
An internationally renowned architect will be found to design a potential 80-bed seafront hotel and an office building to complement the public space. At ground level there will be a mix of shops, cafes and restaurants to keep the public space animated and alive.
Space for outdoor performances and events - with the option of incorporating a seawater bathing pool - will be included in the designs.

The town's greatest natural asset is the seafront. It will be included in the overall regeneration of the town. Projects will focus on maximising the accessibility of the beach as well as encouraging a lively, vibrant and attractive coastal environment that links West St Leonards, the central seafront and the Old Town
