Works to Cliffs

Last year, surveys of the cliffs at White Rock, the Castle and Rock a Nore were carried out, to find out how safe they are.

The inspections found a number of places where the cliffs need works carried out to make them safer.  Work will be carried out at Rock a Nore and on the cliffs above Castle Hill car park shortly.  Because the cliffs at Rock a Nore are part of the Country Park Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), English Nature will have to give permission for the work to be carried out.

Owners of cliffs at White Rock east of the pier and those who own those west of the pier have been given copies of the survey.  The east cliff owners are advised to maintain the vegetation although the cliff is stable, but some work may need to be carried out on the cliffs to the west.

The Council has advised the Motor Boat and Yacht Club at Rock a Nore, of the danger and they are now carrying out their own risk assessment.
