Access Guide

A disabled guide to Hastings & St. Leonards for residents and visitors has just been launched with the help of Hastings Borough Council.

The guide 'Hastings & St. Leonards made easier' was written by Paul Borthwick and Kevin Towner, and was launched at Hastings Castle by the Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Hastings, Councillors Phil Scott and Terry Soan.  The Castle itself features in the guide, as do many other parts of the town.

Kevin, who is also chair of the Hastings & Rother Disability Forum, said:
"Paul and I worked on this guide because, quite simply, there was no guide to the town for disabled people.  We've looked at what's good in the town, and what's not, and it is clear that there is still a lot to do in some areas.  Our access group is working with the Council, and we are very keen on improving the access for disabled people to the town's many open spaces.  For instance, we want to open up more of the Country Park.

"However, as this guide shows, some good work has been done already, and I do hope it will prove to be useful."

Copies of the guide are available from the Hastings Information Centre in Priory Meadow
