More Music in Hastings

Earlier this year young people took part in a ten week programme of workshops to make music.

Working with music group RedZebra, 5 young people aged between 14 and 17 mixed garage, hip hop and drum n bass and did some MCing. They then recorded tracks straight onto a laptop, using top of the range technology.

The scheme ran at St Mary in the Castle and at Robsack Community Centre. It was aimed at young people who are not in formal education. Groups invited to take part included the StepOn Project, Xtrax, Xpress Advocacy Service and young people taking part in the Sport4U project.

Councillor John Humphries, Cabinet Member responsible for Participation, said:

"We want to be able to give young people the chance to get involved in a variety of activities and projects."
"The Council, is helping to set up a project called More Music in Hastings in partnership with Rythmix, which is a Youth Music Action Zone funded by local education authorities."
"This would be a year long project which would give young people the chance to create and perform their own music and film by staging music technology, DJ and live music workshops, mentoring sessions and training. We also hope to gather lots of local musicians together who can run workshops with and for young people."
