Welcome

Jeremy Birch Photograph

There is so much activity involving Hastings Borough Council and so much going on to improve the town that our About magazine can only cover a small part of it.

The results of the huge consultation conducted with the people of the town at the end of last year are now being analysed. There seems to be strong agreement on the general vision to revive Hastings & St Leonards and on the plans and targets for dealing with the immediate issues of health, crime, education and so on.

Some of the consultation results are carried inside this edition.

In addition to that you will find articles bringing you up to date on our £3.5 million Alexandra Park restoration project, telling you about the work on Anti-Social Behaviour Orders and about our plans to introduce new decorative lighting right along the seafront.

There are also articles on work with young people, conservation of our historic buildings and of new nature reserves.

There is no other town of our size with so much going on; and there is no local council of our size involved in so much.

And as the full force of the major projects to regenerate the town kick in there will be even more happening. We are calling the next 12 months “the year of delivery” – delivering what townspeople want, delivering what we have promised and delivering the new future for Hastings. About will do its best to keep up with the pace and to keep everyone informed of the progress.
