This is an opportunity to join with thousands across the nation in the National Holocaust Memorial Day events. An opportunity to remember, to reflect, perhaps to weep, for the 6 million who dies in the Holocaust, and, because we rarely learn from history, for the many millions who have died in other atrocities around the world since then.
An opportunity to hear from a local survivor, and to consider how we can prevent such inhumanity in future. There will be contributions from Opera South East and, as the special focus this year is on the 1.5 million children who died in the holocaust, the service will be followed by a performance of ‘The Diary of Anne Frank’ by Shades Theatre Company.
The service is being arranged by Hastings and District Jewish Society, The Council of Christians and Jews and Christian Friends of Israel, with the support of Hastings Borough Council. Entrance to the service and play is free but by ticket only. Applications for tickets should be made in writing to Holocaust Memorial Service, Town Hall, Queens Road, Hastings, Sussex, TN34 1QR enclosing a stamped addressed envelope. The closing date for booking is Friday 17th January.
Shades Theatre Company will also be performing ‘The Diary of Anne Frank’ at St Mary-in-the-Castle on 23rd & 24th January. Tickets for these performances can be bought direct from the theatre booking office.
