Image is Everything

A whopping 78 properties across the town have had a facelift since the beginning of the campaign to rid the town of eyesores.

In fact, the work to smarten up the town is being taken so seriously that another planning enforcement officer is to be employed, so that the momentum can be kept up.

A total of 37 legal notices have been served on owners of seafront property and work has been completed on 36 buildings. Work has started or is shortly about to begin on a further 8 properties.

The Old Town

Work has been completed on 19 properties and is underway or promised on another two.

Queens Road

Queens Road is the latest priority of the Council. Officers are working with the Town Centre Management Team to combat eyesores and offer grants to assist property owners with improvements. So far 40 premises have been targeted. Work has already been completed to five premises and another four have work which has started or is about to.

Councillor Godfrey Daniel, Chair of the Planning Board, said:

"So, far, over eighty legal notices requiring owners to carry out external improvement works to their buildings have been served.
"We have recently carried out four successful prosecutions and we have also carried out some work to buildings ourselves for which we will recover the costs.
"Such effective enforcement has a vital role in improving the appearance of Hastings & St Leonards to benefit us all!"
