It's now four months since the announcement of the £400m 'new dawn' for Hastings & St Leonards and the town is still buzzing with the news.
The money will be spent on projects such as improving the seafront environment, returning prominent town centre buildings to use as a new campus for the University of Brighton specialising in IT, new media and other creative mediums, the regeneration of Ore Valley and exciting plans to create new business opportunities.
But it is not just the announcement that Hastings & St Leonards is at last attracting the funds and support it needs to build on its thriving community and take advantage of new opportunities that is making headlines. The planners and architects involved in the physical regeneration projects are all respected within their industries, and the town will undoubtedly benefit from their expertise.
Detailed design work is now starting on the new visitor centre being planned for the Stade. Top architect Kathryn Findlay has been appointed and has already made a number of visits to the town with her design team.
Full public consultation will take place so that Kathryn can get a good understanding of exactly what old town residents and traders want on the site. It is hoped that an exhibition of her initial plans will open on Saturday 13th July.
Kathryn has designed some stunning buildings both in Japan and in the UK and has a reputation for producing designs which, while innovative and modern, blend in with their surroundings. She is also very keen to use local materials wherever possible and to work with the local community.
