At first glance, the image on the front cover of About, may look like an obelisk, but in fact it is part of the innovative new lighting scheme which will be installed opposite Marine Court.
'Stream' is the stunning new decorative lighting scheme, which is due to be up and running by the end of March. The project is the work of local artist Esther Rolinson, and has been funded by a Millennium Award. Installation of the project will be funded through the Council's decorative lighting budget.
The lighting comprises seven columns, installed on the promenade opposite Marine Court. It has been designed to enhance the architecture of the 1930s building and its surroundings. Waves of light will move from column to column reflecting the motions of the sea.
Local residents and groups were involved in consultation about the design and the end result is a lighting scheme which is totally unique to the town and can be viewed by both residents and visitors alike.
Councillor Mike Bigg, Cabinet Member responsible for Regeneration, said: "Stream is a fantastic project which has involved local artists and the local community. Our town is unique, and improving the decorative lighting in the town - and in particular some of the seafront lighting - is part of our strategy to reflect this.
"The design has been influenced by and compliments one of the more unusual buildings in St Leonards and also integrates with the seafront and the promenade."
