It's full speed ahead at Alexandra Park - the improvement and regeneration work to restore it to its former glory as a Victorian pleasure park is well underway.

Pond dredging is now complete and the platforms installed for educational use have now been constructed. Planting will take place in the Spring.
The middle lawn is completely covered with all the silt that was dredged from the ponds. It will be mixed with organic materials and then reseeded with grass to become a really 'green' lawn. Reusing the silt in this way could be regarded as a form of recycling! It is hoped that it will be ready for use in late Summer.
At the time of going to print the building refurbishment work is well underway and nearing completion. Refurbishments have been made to the café, bandstand, tennis pavilion and the bowls club toilets. A concessionaire is being found to run the café from early Summer.
The wall that divides Harmers lane and the park has been completely repaired.
The paths in the lower and upper park will be resurfaced by July.
The play area in the Lower Park is being re-designed with new equipment and use of the space will provide an excellent area for children to play in. Work is due to be completed during the Summer.
Councillor Godfrey Daniel, Chair of the Custodians of the Park, said:
"These are truly exciting times for Alexandra Park and its users. The transformation that is taking place is, I'm sure, welcomed by everyone. I am particularly looking forward to listening to good music from the bandstand whilst enjoying the facilities offered by the new cafe."
Noticeboards in the park have more information about all the projects taking place.
