The following letters have been received from visitors to the town - what more proof do you need that our town is steadily improving.
I am writing to you to tell you how lovely we thought Hastings was. My husband, three boys aged 15,14 and 9 came down to stay for our holiday during the last week of July following the weather forecast that it was going to be sunny in the southeast. We camped at Pett on a really gorgeous farm campsite and went into Hastings every day. There is so much to do and all the amenities are so well looked after. The toilets are brilliant, the beach is clean and safe, the pier is exciting and the shopping centre is well cared for and there is a plan in progress to continue to make Hastings even better. The streets are clean (we noticed a lot of litter bins), there is not much dog mess, the buildings look nice and the people are kind, friendly and helpful.
We had such a good holiday. We didn't only use tourist facilities but also went to the swimming baths, Alexandra Park to play tennis and went to lots of parts of the Country Park. We loved all the museums, the harbour, the fish market, the funiculars, the crazy golf, the par 3 golf course and the pubs. Nothing was too expensive either. I haven't even mentioned all the other activities that were going on and the castles, battle sites , exhibitions and museums. There was something for everyone. What a great place. Thank you Hastings, it was one of the best holidays we have ever had and that's saying something with teenagers at a tricky age!
I always enjoy a day out to Hastings because it is my birthplace and holds a special place in my heart. But sadly, last year when I had a day out and visited my haunts, I was disturbed to see how run down, tatty and generally mucky the front was. But now the good news! Yesterday I had a visit to Rye and passed through Hastings en route and was astonished by what you had achieved in a year. The streets were so clean they appeared to be newly swept, no paper or cartons to be seen blowing about. The beach looked quite lovely and debris free. Then I was knocked out by the floral displays all the way from the fish market to St Leonards. Even this late in the season the flower beds were a feast of colour and delight. My congratulations to all concerned with this transformation. It was the culmination of a wonderful day out.
