Hundreds of children from Christ Church School designed large scale self portraits with the help of local artists which were made into banners and put on display along Kings Road during the summer. The banners were created with the help of Ray Smith - the Council's Year of the Artist Resident, local artists Judy Dewsbery, Rebecca Marshall and Carolyn Jackson.
In September, there was a day of celebrations of 'Our Street', which was the culmination of a six month consultation with local residents about how they would like the visual appearance of the area to be improved.
The day of celebrations included street theatre, music and a tribute to children of Christchurch School.
Councillor John Humphries, Cabinet Member responsible for Community Participation, said:
"This is a fine example of the way the Council is encouraging local community activity to improve everyone's quality of life."
