Fair Play

Kids asked how play area should be improved

Children at Christ Church School were this summer given the opportunity to share their ideas for improvements to the Gensing Gardens play area with the Council.

The Council consulted with local play groups, children, parents and schools to find out what they thought would be the best way to improve the play area. The children made a special visit to the site and then built models of it, some of which were displayed at consultation sessions.

The playground is situated in a conservation area. The Council is looking to provide a playground which both complements the gardens, and offers a challenging and interesting play experience for children and young people aged from 0-14 years. The overall size of the site will be increased by around 40 per cent during the improvements, which are due to start this Autumn.

Councillor John Huphries, Cabinet Member responsible for Community Participation, said:

"We are working on improving our play areas with help and consultation with parents and children. We have already successfully carried out improvements to West Hill and Bos Field play areas which have improved their popularity, and I am delighted that children and parents have been keen to work with us to create an excellent new play area."
