As the article elsewhere on Old Town Carnival Week says, Hastings & St Leonards is becoming famous for its festivals.

And this year there is another, celebrating the sea:- Shorething! It will include a range of sea-based sports; rowing, canoeing, sailing, sub aqua, swimming and an array of activities taking place on the beach.
Shorething, will be held from Friday 6th July until Sunday 8th July. There will be a huge continental market on the Pelham Place car park, a Birdman competition on (and then off!) Hastings Pier, beach volleyball, ‘Come and Try’ sessions with local sports clubs, an Open Water Swim from the Harbour Arm to the Pier, the now famous ‘Walking the Fish’, and numerous art and music events. On Friday 6th July, there will be a large event on the beach for kids under 8 involving many of the pre-school playgroups, nurseries and local schools.
For older residents, there will be a welcome return of the ‘Tubman’ competition recalling the days before and after the second world war when ‘Biddy the Tubman’ used to perform on the sea.
Full programme details will be coming soon so put the weekend of July 6,7 and 8 in your diary.
Although Hastings Borough Council is funding the event, most of the work is being done by individuals and community organisations, and again shows what a really fantastic Hastings & St. Leonards is to live, work and visit.
Finally, Shorething has attracted numerous national and local companies and business who have offered their help in supply equipment, prize money and trophies. Sea France, the ferry operator, are the main private sponsor, but special thanks go to Trinity Street Ltd, Something Different Leisure, Travis Perkins,Stade Constuction,George Stone, B&Q,Clambers, Site Safe, Challenge Scaffolding, Seeboard, and Southern Counties Radio.
