Cash Netted

The Old Town’s unique Net Shops are to benefit from a total of £240,000 funding to renovate and repair them.

Nineteen of the net shops have been repaired over the last four years, leaving 23 to be to be repaired over the next three years. The scheme is known as a Heritage Economic Regeneration Scheme (HERS). It will be funded by £120,000 from English Heritage, £30,000 from Hastings Borough Council and £90,000 of European money (Objective 2).

Councillor Mike Bigg Cabinet Member responsible for Economic and Physical Regeneration is also the local Ward Councillor. He said:

Securing funding for the continuation of repairs to these historic buildings is excellent news. This will play an important part in the regeneration of the Stade. It is a step towards the Council’s aim to make the most of this part of the town as a maritime heritage site for tourism and cultural purposes.
