The popular contemporary visual arts festival, Coastal Currents, will be back in September for its third year, offering visitors to, and residents in the south east, the chance to enjoy and take place in arts on our doorstep.
The two month long festival will encompass the coastline from Bexhill to Folkestone, and will also include inland rural towns and villages in Shepway and Rother. Events will take place indoors, outdoors and in a variety of public and private spaces.
The festival aims to raise the profile of local artists, celebrating of our coastal culture, offer greater access to the working processes of artists and increase and develop new audiences for art.
The festival comprises three main strands. Exhibitions and commissions, open studios and artist led events and educational projects. Councillor John Humphries, Cabinet Member responsible for Community Participation, said:
Coastal Currents is an innovative and diverse arts festival the only one of its kind in the south east. This year, we expect to expand on last year’s success the festival will include photography, mixed media, video and digital art. I hope that we will also be able to run a short film festival again and give local people the chance to air their creativity.
Coastal Currents is lead by Hastings Borough Council in partnership with Rother and Shepway District Council’s.
