Hastings is getting quite a name for being a fun, lively, bohemian place to be - even quirky. The various festivals and events attract a huge regional, national and even international following.
One of the oldest events in the town’s calendar is Old Town Carnival Week. Once consisting of Old Town Week, co-ordinated by the Old Hastings Preservation Society, and the Old Town Carnival run by the Hastings Old Town Carnival Association, we now have, simply Old Town Carnival Week. This is a huge collection of events, put on by private individuals, companies, charities, community groups and other organisations, and co-ordinated by the Old Hastings Preservation Society and the Hastings Old Town Carnival Association.

The events range from the sublime to the ridiculous to things that only Old Towners can do and get away with: from coffee mornings, cream teas and open houses to a race on a butchers bike up one of the steepest hills in town, to a fishing boat race (‘race’ is hardly the word, with flour bombs, and water cannon more the order of the day). Also included are a street party, a three legged pub quiz (aka pub crawl), a pram race, a massive open air beach concert, numerous art galleries open, and art displays, and much, much, more. Not forgetting the carnival itself, for many the highlight of the week, followed by fireworks display.
Hastings Old Town Carnival Week runs from Saturday August 4 to Sunday August 12, with the carnival taking place on Friday August 10. The carnival will start at 7 o’clock, and will take the same route as last year - up All Saints Street, down High Street, along the seafront to the fountain and then returning to the Stade. See you there!
