RADIATOR is a new Council supported arts group based in Hastings & St Leonards. The group is made up of twenty local artists and musicians and has evolved from the three-year residency with Same Sky arts company from Brighton, producing spectacular, innovative public events in collaboration with the local community. These have included Walking The Fish seafront parade, the Lantern Tree performances at St Mary-in-the Castle, Seachange lantern-lit event in Alexandra Park and the Headland spectacular on Rock-a-nore beach last October.
The popular Walking The Fish parade will be staged again this year on July 7th , as part of Hastings Borough Council’s Shorething festival, and will involve hundreds of local schoolchildren in making costumes and giant fantastical sea creatures for a public seafront procession. The parade will be a riot of colour with lively carnival music from Hastings Celebration Band, Sambalanca and schools percussion groups. The two-part Walking The Fish procession will take place between 11.15a.m. and 12.00 noon, starting from both Rock-a-Nore and Warrior Square and gather on the beach for start of the Shorething 1066 sea swim race. See programme for full festival details.
RADIATOR are now geared up to create more exciting presentations and events look out for their next big show planned for October, when they will fill Hastings Pier with light, music and colour in a new night-time performance event.
Councillor John Humphries, Cabinet Member responsible for Community Participation, said:
We are keen to promote community art in Hastings & St Leonards and build on the success that Same Sky has already achieved. I look forward to seeing RADIATORs performances this year.
