The local churches are making Hastings Sierra Leone, in West Africa, the focus of their LOAF project this year. LOAF has built an orphanage in Romania and a school in Rwanda, for its last 2 projects. Now it is anxious to raise funds to alleviate the desperate plight of our namesake in Sierra Leone, which has been ravaged by civil war. The town has suffered terribly, with roads, communications, schools and jobs detroyed, and residents reduced to living under plastic sheeting in their own gardens. LOAF is organising a sponsored walk on Bank Holiday Monday, May 7th. There will be a choice of distances to suit walkers, from 5 to 20 miles, along some beautiful country footpaths around Hastings & St Leonards. More details, and sponsor forms, can be obtained from the LOAF project at 44 Woodbrook Road, Hastings TN34 2DQ or from the town’s Twinning Officer, Robin Gray, on 781130. * Please note that the Foot & Mouth outbreak may change this event.
