Hastings will be heading into the summer months with all flags flying our beach has been awarded a European Seaside Award.
The Pelham Place area of the beach has passed all the tests for cleanliness and safety that the Tidy Britain Group have set up to ensure that the highest standards are met - and now there will be a flag flying there to recognise that.
The Seaside Awards are only given to beaches that are well managed with excellent facilities for everyone. This includes providing first aid, having supervisors, clean toilets and ensuring access and facilities for disabled visitors at each resort. Dogs are also banned from the beach at Pelham Place.
Last summer a Lifeguard Station was installed at Pelham Place. It operates throughout the summer and provides first aid facilities, beach patrols and information and facts about the beach.
Councillor Trevor Webb, Cabinet Member responsible for Community Safety and Quality of Life, said: A tremendous amount of hard work has been put in to make our beach cleaner, safer and a better environment for residents and visitors to the town. The water quality results that Hastings & St Leonards had during the year are better than the ones that Blackpool had.
The installation of fact-giving noticeboards, more patrols and more lifeguards makes our seafront service better than ever. Now this has paid off we can now boast that our beach has one of the highly acclaimed Seaside Awards.
