All change at the Town Hall

It’s all change at the Town Hall as a result of a scheme which aims to improve access, security and quality of service.

The main entrance to the Town Hall is currently in Queens Road, but under this scheme it will be combined with the award winning Hastings Information Centre in Queens Square.

Town Hall

Automatic doors will be installed between the Information Centre and Town Hall offices to allow easy wheelchair and pushchair access for the public.

Because this means there will be just one main point of access, improvements to telephone answering arrangements will be made. At the moment, the Information Centre staff deal with all types of enquiries, but soon, there will be dedicated staff to deal with telephone enquiries, allowing the Information Centre staff to concentrate on personal callers.

Councillor John Humphries, Cabinet Member responsible for Community Participation, said: “We are keen to build on the success of our award winning Information Centre by making it the gateway to a more accessible Council. In particular, wheelchair users, and those with pushchairs will find it much easier to get into and out of the Information Centre and Town Hall.

By taking the telephone answering off the counter of the HIC, we will improve the service offered to both telephone and personal callers to the Town Hall. And better lighting and security will benefit visitors and staff alike.” You can contact the Hastings Information Centre on 781111.
