Over the next two months nearly four hundred trees will be planted along streets in Hastings & St Leonards.
Although the tree planting scheme has been carried out in previous years - this year it is going to get greener.
Stakes will be used to support the new trees. the stakes will be taken from Church Wood, which is a coppiced woodland and therefore sustainable. Hessian sacking will be used to tie the trees to the stakes - instead of plastic ties. the trees will be planted in pavements and in verges. the soil around them will be packed with wood chips left over from woodland management schemes which means that the trees have to be watered less.
Councillor Trevor Webb, Cabinet Member responsible for Quality of Life, said: "Planting more trees around our streets is an initiative which we are very proud of, and have been doing over the last five years. It is a positive move towards a better environment, with both health and aesthetic advantages, and is also something that future generations in the town will benefit from.
"We expect the trees to be delivered at the beginning of next week and there will be a mixture of Ash, Pine, Flowering Cherries and Birch. Roads which are going to benefit from the scheme include: Grange Avenue, Fairlight Avenue, Ghyllside Avenue, Collinswood Road, Parkstone Road and Upper Maze Hill."
