Welcome

Jeremy Birch Photograph

“Set in a series of tightly wooded valleys that wind their way in from the English Channel, Hastings has a micro-climate all its own. the remains of William the Conqueror’s castle, set on a steep sandstone promontory, provide a dramatic backdrop to the town and the sea views from the hills are almost Mediterranean. the For Sale signs that once lingered for months even years are being replaced increasingly quickly by Sold signs. Scaffolding and fresh paint are evident along the seafront.”

the council’s marketing department could have written all that but in fact it comes from a recent article in the Sunday Telegraph. And the Telegraph is not the only national paper to comment on the positive changes here in Hastings. Compare that with the same old downbeat picture the national press all too often used to paint of our town.

there is a new view of Hastings & St Leonards being adopted by those from the outside and I believe increasingly that is being mirrored by a new confidence amongst the people who live here.

Locals can see the worst seafront buildings beginning to be tackled, the town centre reviving, more external resources coming into the borough unemployment falling and even the pier being repaired.

the Borough Council is vitally involved in all these improvements and in this current edition of About we are trying to share just some of them with you.
